Mark SeatonAuthor / Mountain Guide

About the Author

Mark Seaton is a professional Mountain Guide who lives and works in the French Alps. He has worked as a Guide since 1992 and operates at the cutting edge of his profession. Recently, Mark guided a climb on one of the most difficult ascents in the world, the notorious North Face of the Eiger. This is something no other British Mountain Guide has done alone. He was the first Guide to successfully reach the summit of Europes highest mountain, Mont Blanc, with a blind client.

Mark Seaton is an internationally qualified Mountain Guide and a member of both the British and French Mountain Guides' associations.

Mark lives in France in the town of Chamonix with his wife Jane,
a passionate sportswoman, and his three dynamic daughters,
who are just as keen on climbing and skiing as their Dad.

Due to the nature of Mark's work Mark is only available for UK school visits in October and November.

School Visits

The talk lasts about 15 minutes followed by 15 minutes of questions from the

pupils.  It also includes a visual element, in that I show images of a

real scene from a mountain followed by a picture from the book- so on and so forth.

I will also bring climbing equipment so that the pupils can even participate in

a demonstration of a bleeper search used for avalanche rescue.

Whilst the book is aimed at 3-6 year olds, the talk can appeal up to 10 year

olds, as it is about the creative writing process.  I have found that it

is best to have the ages grouped. I would welcome the opportunity to give

the talk to pupils across all ages at your school.

Testimonials

"I just wanted to send you an e mail thanking you once again for your visit to our school this Wednesday. After speaking with all the class teachers the children were enthused and inspired after your sessions. (as were the teachers!) Thank you once again."

Laura Kirk, International School, Gland, France

"Mark Seaton visited our school to present his work and books Mark the Mountain Guide.Mark Seaton is very professional in his approach and he had a very good manner with the children. He was approachable and friendly at the same time as being instructive.

His presentation is very interesting and the children in our school were enthralled by the work he does, especially climbing the Mont Blanc with a client with a visual impairment.

His presentation was informative and it captured the childrens interest. Mark Seaton used a wide variety of techniques including:

  • A slide show to explain how he got his inspiration
  • Artefacts for the children to touch and look at
  • A game using an avalanche device.

His question and answer session at the end was also very interesting.

We really enjoyed his visit at the school and we are looking forward to his next visit."

Clare, Head of English, Ecole Riviera School, Case Postale, France
