About the Author

After a successful career as and English teacher and Special Needs coordinator, Josephine began writing seriously in the early 1990s. Her first play was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1992. Since then she has had several children’s books published. Her work includes a great deal about being the child of immigrants. She also writes about the joys and frustrations of family life. These are popular and useful themes for children and young people throughout the country. Josephine has run many successful Writers’ Workshops and Author Visits in schools and libraries all over Britain. She has been very successful in getting even the most reluctant young person to write.

Josephine loves visiting schools and enjoys working with all age groups. She is lively, energetic and entertaining. She has considerable experience in working with young people with Special Educational Needs, particularly those on the Autistic Spectrum. Josephine works with almost all age groups.

Testimonials

“Josephine worked with two groups of our Year 12 students in preparation for their AS Level creative writing coursework assignment. She presented a thought-provoking, engaging and challenging range of activities. They found the workshops beneficial in a number of ways; they learned useful strategies to improve their own writing and gained greater understanding of the writer's craft.
The students enjoyed the time they spent with Josephine-they were motivated, inspired and felt empowered as writers.”
Kathy McMahon, Head of English, Hind Leys Community College, Shepshed, Leicestershire.

“Thank you so much for all the work you put into making both days so successful. Your writing workshops were outstanding.”
Librarian, Bishop Walsh Catholic Comprehensive School, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands.

“Pupils have taken on board Josephine’s advice. They have started taking the risk of writing down ideas and not worrying too much about spelling. This has helped ‘unblock’ certain pupils and they are becoming more independent.. Two pupils have started writing at length. One has been able to write about very personal and traumatic events in his life. Visits from authors help to motivate young readers and writers. Getting advice from a ‘real’ author is always more valuable than a teacher.”
Phoenix School, Bow, East London.
