Helen has worked as a Special Needs co-ordinator and an advisory teacher. Before leaving teaching she was teacher in charge of a tutorial unit for excluded pupils. She now writes full time, and has written over fifty books, including fiction, non fiction and school resources. Writing credits include Walking with Dinosaurs – Dinosaur World and Blue Planet for BBC Worldwide. She is currently writing Siti’s Sisters, a series of short novels for reluctant girl readers for Ransom Publishing.
She also writes under the name of Helen Bird.
Helen works with KS1 – 3 pupils, and offers a mix of performances and workshops, arranged to suit the needs and timetable of the school. She specialises in workshops on non-fiction writing, but has also run many workshops on fiction writing.
Most of Helen’s workshops are in the South of England, but she is happy to travel further, particularly if more than one day’s work is involved. If you book Helen and David Orme on the same day, there is a special ‘buy one author, get another for only £100’ offer.
Helen is happy to supply contact details for recent school visits if a reference is required.
