Pete Johnson
writes stories for a wide readership (approx 7-13)
He is best known,
firstly for his pacey thrillers such as
'The Ghost Dog' which
won the Young Telegraph Award and
'Avenger,' which won
the Sheffield Book Award (Best Shorter Novel of 2005) Secondly, for his
best selling comedies which include:
'How to train Your Parents,' 'Trust me,
I'm a Troublemaker,' which has been shortlisted for
several regional prizes. His latest books are
'Help, I'm A Classroomn Gambler,'
(Corgi/Yearling) and
'The Ex-Files'
published July 2006, (Puffin)
Pete gives lively
and interactive talks. He tells how he started writing, explains where
his ideas come from and reads extracts from his stories. Some of his
author talks focus more on the pleasures of reading - and are often part
of an initiative in schools and public libraries to raise the profile of
reading. Some schools focus on a particular book of Pete's (e.g.
'Avenger,' 'The Ghost Dog,' 'Trust me, I'm a Troublemaker.') Pete will
discuss the title in more depth and also develop follow-up work. Schools
often say these sessions stir up a whole new interest in creative
writing amongst the pupils.
Responses to Pete’s visits to schools :
'I have been inundated
with lovely comments from pupils saying how much they enjoyed your
sessions and how they are desperate to read as many of your books as
they can ... many of the teachers have commented they consider you, the
best most exciting speaker we've had at Perins (and we've had a lot.')
Perins School, Hampshire
'An inspirational
visit. Thank you.'
Burton Advantage
Schools
'Your visit was a
resounding success.'
Hampton Community
College
'The feedback I have
received has been extremely positive and a number of the children have
mentioned how keen they are to get down to some story writing. You
certainly have inspired them.'
Berkhamsted
Collegiate Prep School, Herts
'The feedback I have
received has been really enthusiastic. Many students have taken the time
to come into the LRC and tell me what they thought of the book they
bought and to borrow others. It's been brilliant.'
Winston Churchill School, Woking
