I’m very happy working with KS1 and KS2 in schools or libraries or at festivals. I also teach adults wanting to write for children.

What I do depends on what the school wants. I often go into primary schools and do a session which each year group, probably spending just twenty minutes with nursery and reception children but an hour with the year 6. On those kind of visits I mix reading stories with talking about what a story is, where ideas come from, what to do with those ideas and how books are made. But on other visits I do workshops, working with children to produce a story. That can either be done in a way which sets several groups of children going on a project which is then carried through with the teacher in time without me there, or I work with fewer children to get a story written and finished.
