Jan Dean is a popular children's poet and author.

Her poetry collection Wallpapering The Cat (Macmillan) was selected by the Poetry Book Society (Children's Poetry Bookshelf) as BEST SINGLE POET COLLECTION for Spring 2003.

What Jan can offer your school (in her own words)...

My standard day in a school begins with a performance in assembly after which I do workshops with classes.  Each workshop takes 50 mins approx and starts with the writing of a group poem after which pupils write their own poems.  I try to look at as many of these as possible before moving to the next workshop.

I travel quite a bit, though the North West, North Midlands are North Wales are my preferred areas as they’re close to home.  I don’t leave home before 7.15 am for workshops because I’d be used up before I arrived if I left any earlier…

I do travel farther afield if required, and if the school is happy to pay overnight expenses.

I’m at my best with juniors, though I have experience of infant work and special ed.  I’ve worked in MLD schools and EBD schools. I also work in secondary schools from time to time.
