My story is a long one and quite topical as I was the first author to knock JK Rowling off the top of the New York Times best seller lists last year with my first book Shadowmancer. In fact I had two New York Times best sellers in the space of six months as my second book Wormwood also hit the charts in October. Both books have been international #1 best sellers -translated into over 40 languages and Shadowmancer topped the UK charts for a record 15 weeks. For the past two years I have been nominated for the Book of the Year awards. I only started to write in 2002.

My books are aimed at the 9 to 16 age group but I have found I am read by millions of people in the 30 to 60 age group. They are also a good old fashioned yarns of high adventure and thrills that have been said are like RL Stevenson meets Tolkien - the Times said they were 'Hotter than Potter...'

How I got published was a miracle in itself, being a forty year old Vicar into cricket and jazz music I decided one day to write a book and eight months later sold my precious 1200cc motorcycle to do it and self published Shadowmancer. It became a sell out success and I was snapped up by Faber and then by Penguin Putnam in the USA with six figure deals and had to fight off Roman Polanski who wanted the film rights - finally selling them to Universal Pictures - both books will be made into movies within the next 24 months.

I have recently appeared on most of the major American TV and Radio shows as well as having features in all of the broadsheets such as the LA and New York Times, The Guardian, and Sunday Times etc as well as Johnny Walker and Ned Sherrin in early 2004. I also occasionally write for the Times and Telegraph and review books for the Guardian.

So that is the story so far. My new book Tersias was released in September by Faber and BBC Audio, it is about a blind boy who can see into the future. Shadowmancer is also released as a Manga comic worldwide in the same month - the first author to be immortalised as a comic book figure - it even looks like me!
